For the past 10+ years, Flashback Racing has reserved the first weekend in May to attend the Magic Dragon Street Meet Nationals in Lake Ozark, Missouri.
Located on the shores of Lake of the Ozarks, this area offers something for everyone. This little piece of paradise offers relaxing boating, golfing, shopping, fishing, wave running, hiking, floating, or just good old-fashioned socializing.
Consequently, it isn’t surprising that this show is now limited to 800 entries due to its ever-increasing popularity (it has reached over 1000 entries in recent years), so registration is now typically full about a week after registration opens each January.
While the show begins at 10 am on Friday and through traffic is allowed all that day, Bagnell Dam Boulevard is closed to through traffic from 8 am – 5 pm on Saturday morning so that street machines can rule the day.

Participants need to be parked in their favored location well before sunrise on both Friday and Saturday mornings.
My buddy Tony and I were lucky to find spots next to each other at 5:30 am both mornings in front of our favorite restaurant and watering hole, Tucker’s Shuckers, a popular restaurant and bar that has been open at least since the first year we attended.
This year proved to be well attended by spectators despite intermittent threats of rain from angry-looking clouds. Crowds of both young and old filled Bagnell Dam Boulevard both afternoons to view show cars parked on both sides of the street as well as in the left turn lane for almost a mile.
A new feature on Friday from 5:30 -7:30 pm was drive-through judging for those cars registered for national judging as well as for showing. This proved to be a much easier and less time-consuming experience than I’d expected as it was handled in an efficient and well-planned manner by event organizers.
Our Friday evening was then spent eating a leisurely and delicious meal at Tucker’s Shuckers and kicking back to watch lake activities from our rented condo’s patio overlooking one finger of the lake.

Crowds built steadily from 8 am – 3 pm on Saturday. With show cars also steadily coming and going, there was always something new and interesting to study.
Then at 3 pm on Saturday afternoon, our 425-mile tow was proven worthwhile as Flashback Racing’s 1975 Corvette convertible was awarded 1st place in its competition class of C3 Corvettes between 1968 and 1982.
It also validated the work I had put into the car during March and April to install the new Vintage Air AC system and hood liner upgrade.
We stayed at the strip long enough on Saturday evening for a victory round of beverages, a meal, and cheering on our favorite horses and riders competing in the Kentucky Derby before heading back to our condo.
Congratulations to Mystik Dan on a narrow victory – I judge our win may have been a close call as well!
