Since the hood was already off Flashback Racing’s 1975 Corvette due to the installation of the Vintage Air System in March 2024, it seemed like a really good idea to also upgrade the appearance of the hood’s underside. Described here are the steps taken to complete this project, along with images of the process.
I chose a hood liner kit from RPI with additional Stingray Graphics. I removed the old liner and cleaned the surface below.
I placed the new liner over the 11 locating pins and let it relax for a day or two from its rolled shape from inside the shipping box.
I used the 3M Rubber and Vinyl Spray Adhesives #80 as recommended by RPI.
The masking – gluing – and unmasking took about 2 hours.
I then applied the two decals, which took another hour to level and center each.
With the installation complete, I spent another 2 hours cleaning up and painting the hood latches and cold air cowling. I then removed the cold air solenoid actuated door, which only allows fresh air into the air cleaner at wide-open throttle, so we are now all fresh air all the time – a feature that I think the 425hp ZZ 383 will appreciate.
Total Project Time: 5 hours
Total Project Cost: $235.83
